What is Spades Academy?

Our curriculum-based, expert- and coach-led educational initiative is a very signature offering at every Love, Peace & Spades™ program and events.

Through Spades Academy™, we invite people of all ages and backgrounds to (re)learn, play, and connect through what we call #BlackFamilyHeirlooms — games such as Bid Whist, Tunk (also known as Tonk), Dominoes, and, of course, Spades.

Designed as both a cultural classroom and a communal space, Spades Academy blends history, strategy, and storytelling to preserve the legacy of Black leisure and play traditions while teaching essential skills such as communication, teamwork, and critical thinking.

Our expert instructors and certified coaches guide participants through beginner-friendly lessons, competitive play clinics, and intergenerational workshops that highlight how these games have shaped social bonds, resilience, and joy across generations.
